Amanda w/ new car June 2004
Welcome to Amanda Barrington's Web Page. Amanda was initially diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) subtype M2 in November 2001 at age 17. She spent 115 days in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital PICU in Virginia due to various complications from her disease. She was in remission for 18 months before she relapsed in July of 2003. Josh, her brother, was a perfect match donor for Amanda. She had the Bone Marrow Transplant at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, TX on August 22, 2003. Amanda made it back to Virginia January 5, 2004. She started working as a hostess for a local restaurant in April, bought her Mazda dream car, and enrolled for the fall college semester. By mid-May, she developed Graft vs. Host Disease in her liver. By mid-July, Amanda had trouble breathing and was admitted to the PICU. They thought the gvhd was in her lungs too. She was on tremendous amounts of steroids and immune suppressants that put her at a greater risk for infections. Sadly, she passed away August 23, 2004 from septic shock without ever getting to go back home. Later it was revealed that she also had fungal growth throughout her body.
May we spend this year in honor of Amanda’s memory living by her example.

Saturday, June 21, 2008 6:10 PM Hello Everyone,
I am really getting bad about these updates. Thanks for stopping in and thinking of us today. We pretty much lead a boring life but I do have a few things to share while you are here!
I am finally gainfully employed (not with the government), and we decided to build a house rather than buy a resale home. Our expected close date is October 22 and that date cannot get here fast enough! The dogs will have their own fenced backyard...woohoo is all I can say. So, after that date, if you are in the neighborhood of Huntsville, AL, stop in for a visit.
Last week, I learned that one of my former supervisors in Virginia was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has gone through two rounds of chemo and has a great attitude about the whole thing. Please pray for her and her family to see this through and kick cancer’s butt.
Not much else going on with us. Hope all y’all are doing well. Take care, Deloyce
Hey Manda Ree, Wishing you was here, as usual. We shopped for some light fixtures for the new house and saw a few non-traditional styles that you would have picked out. Probably won’t get those though! Milo spotted another dachshund living in our apartments in the building across the street... I think the dog is a female b/c Milo gets very happy when he sees her outside. I miss you more than ever and love you always. Sweet dreams, girl. Love, Mom
