Hope you are starting to get excited about Christmas:)

My brother has just been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation Type I and beginning type II. Doctors are telling him that he is young and think he is okay, but he doesn't feel right. He is in constant pain and dizzy. Baylie, I have so many questions about what you've been through and what has been the most help for you. I apologize... my previous post said that I admire you for raising money to find a cure for cancer!! I thought I remembered from reading your story that Chiari was a form of cancer, and now that I've done some research, I have found out that it is not. Nevertheless, I am going to continue to support you, buy your bracelets, and keep you in my thoughts and prayers!! I've also decided that one of your bracelets will be included in all of the presents I give to everyone. Get ready to send a lot of them to my house :)

Baylie,

You are an amazing little girl! I read your story in People Magazine (I know it's been a while, but I didn't know you had a guestbook), and you have sincerely touched me! I am looking forward to purchasing many, many bracelets from you to help raise money to benefit finding a cure for cancer. Not many girls your age would be as strong and brave as you are, and you are a hero to everyone! You will remain in my thoughts and prayers, and each time I look at the bracelets, I will think of you. I will also be able to tell everyone why I am wearing your bracelets, and will send them to your site to have them buy some, too!! :) I just wanted to stop by and let you know that even though you may not know it, you have touched a lot of people's lives. People with and without cancer. I know you sure have touched mine, and I am so glad that I found your story and am able to help in a small way. I hope you reach your goal, and I promise to stop back and keep buying bracelets to help you out as much as I can! Take care sweetie pie!!

Baylie,
I also was diagnosed with PTC about 10 years ago after many surgerys, I now have a shunt that has been in place for 2 years after numerous shunts did not drop the pressure. I read an article in the Rockford Illinois newspaper about a Decatur woman, Ann Banfield and your story was in the article also. I am would be very interested in joining the fundraising efforts in any way that I can to help in supporting every effort that is being made to help in the studys of PTC.
I can be reached at the email address below. I would also like information on the car magnets and braclets.
Sincerely, Larry Elmore

Hi Baylie, I came across your braclets at a resale shop a few years ago. (I bought a couple, of course.) I think it you are doing anawesome thing! I too have ACM.I was diagnosed after I had my second child three years ago.I ended up having surgery right away, but many of the symptoms came back. This past summer I spent almost three months in the hospital undergoing three surgeries and had a shunt placed in my brain. You hsve been through much of the same, yet you stay so possitive. How do you do it? You seem so full of life. I hope that you know how much of an influence you are to people of all ages. Please contact me if I can help in any way. Carrie Ann

Thank you Baylie for being such an inspiration to me and others with PTC/IH. I've ordered your t-shirt [and magnet ribbons] and will wear it proudly and I'm sure it will open the door to questions...questions will lead to awareness...awareness will lead to research and hopefully, research will lead to a cure or better control of the disorder. Thank you so much little one....I pray for you daily....an old grateful grandma lady :)

Hi Baylie. From one chiarian to another, YOU ARE MY HERO. I have had 3 spinal cord fusions and was diagnosed at 23 years old in 1990. Not a lot was known about chiari at that time and I felt so alone because no one understood or could pronounce "chiari" (they still can't:)). Thank you Baylie for having the courage at such a young age to bring awareness and raise money for research. GO FOR THE MILLION GIRL! I'm right here in NC supporting you every step of the way.

Hey Baylie and Tressie
My 10 yr old daughter Shelbi got diagnosed with a Chiari, syrinx, and basilar invagination in Jan. of this year. She had a decompression done at Children's in Birmingham, AL and now she is doing great, although she did come home from school today with a headache(maybe she hasn't learned that having a headache will get her out of school.) But I'm paranoid about every ache and pain. Dr. Oakes doesn't have us worried as much about the Chiari anymore, but hopefully the cyst in her spinal cord and the basilar invagination will not give her any trouble. She was also diagnosed with Moya Moya in Jan. 2002. She was having mini strokes, they rerouted a bloodvessel from on top of her skull and stitched it to her brain. The symptoms are really similar to the Chiari Malformation. I will pray for you and what you are doing to raise money, I had just started checking into fund raisers for this, that is how I stumbled across this website. I am intereseted also in the camp I read about you guys having (oh no, I guess that you guys just showed I'm not a true southerner) I am origanally from Franklin Co. in Indiana. Maybe we will run into each other some time when we visit. I have a sister in Franklin and one on the north side of Indy. The rest are still in Franklin Co. Sorry I know you didn't care to know all of that, I just stay home sick and I talk about home when I can. Good Luck in everything.

Hi Tressie and Baylie,
I'm glad you had fun at camp. Cristina and I wanted to go, but the money for plane tickets just wasn't there. Maybe in a future year....
I'm sorry to hear about the divorce. I would be glad to look at a catalog. I can't guarantee I will buy anything, but I can at least pass it around. I wish all this were easier on our families. Dealing with chiari and trying to earn a living seems so hard.
I hope Baylie and the girls have a good summer and stay healthy. Cristina is struggling here. We're making the rounds of doctors trying to find some answers. Nothing to help yet of course.
I will keep all of you in my prayers,

Blessed Father's Day
For Fatherly Guidance

Lord God, author of all wisdom,
Teach me how to do my work as a father according to your will.
Enlighten my mind that I may understand what to tell my children when it is necessary to give them direction or advice.
Give me good judgment to understand true spiritual values and to guide my family in your ways.
The world makes little of your wisdom and is not instructed in your ways, and close contact with the world makes it easy to become dulled to the things of solid spiritual worth.
Be my guide at all times, that I may be a true father and husband, sensitive always to the divine wisdom that only you can impart.
God, by the light of the Holy Spirit you instruct the hearts of your faithful.
Grant that I may be truly wise and ever enjoy his consolation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Praying for you,

Hi Baylie!

My name is Ali Tunnicliff. I'm a 21-year-old college student, and I'm also a patient of Dr. Frim's. :)

First off, I think you're a really brave girl and this is awesome what you are doing. :) I know Dr. Frim's working really hard to find a cure for Chiari. Is there anything I can do to help raise money, in addition to ordering your bracelets and making a donation? This is a really great cause and I hope they find a cure soon.

In the mean time, keep smiling and never give up hope. Oh, and try to find something to laugh about everyday--that's a lesson I learned in the hospital and it's helped me a lot. I hope it helps you as much as it has me. Laughter really is the best medicine! LOL

Stay tough. I'll be thinking about you.

We have six cruise ships coming in to town bringing more than 14,000 people - that is a lot! Hope you are doing well, school will be out soon. Take care, Debbie

Hi Baylie,

Keep up the good work:) I will definitely be purchasing one of your cute shirts for my little Chiari girl..she is 9 and her name is Evelyn. We think what you are doing is great:) We bought 5 bracelets about 1 1/2-2 years ago, but would really like to have one with the word Cure or Chiari on it. Would that be possible? Let me know if it is and I will send you the money through pay-pal. And, as promised, I will be sending an order for a T-shirt or two:)

“Love...It bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.”
(1 Corinthians 13:7)

Hope you have a blessed Mother's Day!

A Mother's love is something
that no on can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away . . .
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking . . .
It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems . . .
It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation . . .
A many splendoured miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God's tender guiding hand.

Hi my name is Sara and there is a possiblity that my 2 1/2 year old son Matthew has Chiari Malformation. We went to the nurologist last Wednesday and are begining the journey of testing to find out for sure. Everything has been quite a blur and I'm so worried about him. I knew there was always something different with the way he looked, he never could smile and show his teeth and is always so stiff and walked differently, but I never thought that there would be something possibly wrong with his brain stem, I just hoped maybe they would be able to teach him to do it with physical therepy. I'm trying to be strong for him he is such a bright little boy. I am so glad to have found your website, you have given me hope!!! You are in my thoughts and prayers. Even if it turns out that this is not what he has I'm sure it will be a long journey.
I will be thinking of you!

WORDS OF AN ANGEL
May the angels keep you till morning.
May they guide you through the night.
May they comfort all your sorrows.
May they help you win the fight.
May they keep watch on your soul.
May they show you better ways.
May they guard you while you're sleeping.
May they see you through your days.
May they show you new hopes.
May they still your every doubt.
May they calm your every fear.
May they hear you when you shout.
May the angels keep you til morning.
More than this I cannot pray.
And if the angels ever fail you.
Then may God be there that day.

Jelly beans & Jesus

Have you heard the story of the jelly beans?

Little jelly beans
Tell a story true.
A tale of our Father's love
That's just for me and you.

GREEN is for the new spring grass.
YELLOW is for the sun above.
BROWN is for the soft earth where
People sat hearing of HIS love.

PURPLE'S for the robe he wore
RED is for that precious wine.
BLACK is for the sins He washed
From your soul and mine.

BLUE'S for the sadness of
HIS friends and family,
and is for the glory of the Day
HE rose for you and me.

Now that you've heard the story
You know what each color means.
The story of our Father's love
As told by jelly beans.
So when you see jelly beans on this Easter season,
stop and remember,
Jesus is the reason!

"For God so loved the world, He gave His One and Only Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
