Patrick "Tyler" Doughtie

Welcome to Tyler's web site. It has been created to keep all who love and care for him informed of his on-going treatment and condition.

Tyler was diagnosed with a very aggressive brain tumor called Medulloblastoma on Jan. 6, '03. The tumor had metastasized and spread to spots on the coating of his brain and tested positve for cells in his spinal fluid.
His tumor was resected Jan. 16, '03. Tyler received 30 treatments of high dose radiation followed by four months/rounds of high dose chemotherapy and four stem cell transplants (auto-transplant).

In Sept. '03, Tyler was released and considered loosely in remission. He had several check-ups over eight months that showed "some improvement." On May 13, '04, doctors discovered a "new spot", which rapidly spread. He was placed on a study in July and August, which held the growth the first month but proved to be ineffective the second. Tyler was sent home in Sept. '04 to await the opening of another study, which never became available to him.

On December 21st, '04, while waiting the start of the new study, Tyler had a seizure which resulted in his current condition along with nine days in the hospital. He is not able to talk or walk and is on Hospice care at home. He continues the fight of his life in his battle with cancer. His will to live, his attitude and smiling face has won the hearts of literally thousands who continue to pray for him daily. We thank you for your thoughts, prayers, interest and messages! Please add Tyler to your prayer list.

On March 7, 2005 at 1:52 PM, Patrick Tyler Doughtie became cancer free. He may have lost his battle with cancer but won his place next to Jesus. He will forever be in our hearts, until we meet again!

Journal

Here I am again, not much to say but figured over a month and a half was long enough to be silent. I didn't want to change the date of the last journal, Ty's birthday, so have been putting it off. I had gone to the doctor and didn't want to write about me at the time, but my last visit my counts were "stable" at 70,200, which they only went up 100 from the visit before. I go back to the doctor on Tuesday and will have new news then, I'll just post my counts instead of writing an entirely new journal.

We went through Halloween, anopther one of Tyler's favorites. I have many fond memories of past Halloweens with him. He always looked forward to it. Come to think of it, I think there wasn't a special day or holiday he didn't look forward to, there was something special about each one of them. I missed him a lot, as I do every day, but on Halloween, watching Brendan reminds me so much of Ty, with the exception that Brendan is MUCH wilder than Ty ever was, LOL! Brendan dressed as the black Spider-Man and Savanah dressed up as a doll. We went over to a friends house... same as last year, they have a party, food, outside movie and a VERY large "trick or treat" group. We once again spent the evening, or part, with figure skater Scott Hamilton and Steve Cropper (you older folks would know him - Google him), never in my days wouold I have thought to spend Halloween w/ Scott, much less two! He split his evening between Brad and Kimberly Paisley and us. LOL

Anyway, yesterday was "Barkaroo," which is a take off from "Bonnaroo," which is an annual music festival in TN, "Barkaroo" is a dog festival in Middle TN. Sounds a bit crazy, I know, but apparently over 2000 dog lovers seemed to enjoy it. My parents started it last year so this was the 2nd annual Barkaroo. Yesterday was especially special because my brothers and the coordinator of the festival had planned a surprise for Heather and I and my parents. They donated a bench to the Bark Park in Murfreesboro with a plaque attached that had Ty's picture and a special message, I was thrilled, of course.

I am amazed at how much Tyler is still thought of and talked about after almost 4 years. I can't believe that as it is! I'm very excited about having this movie done and out with high hopes that many, many people will be able to benefit from the positive messages we're hoping it will bring, and again, in addition to God, putting Tyler in the spotlight showing what a special little guy he was. With the film, it will allow me to leave behind a bit of Tyler for as long as movies will exist! We really feel the film is going to touch a lot of lives. My pastor has already written a 9 week sermon series based on the film/story called "Letters to God - Learn the joys of prayer," which he already preached this past summer!

Well, I don't have any new updates at the moment, but will post it as soon as I do. Have you seen "Fireproof," by the way? Very good family/faith-based film! Excellent for marriages. I was excited to see the improvement of the cinematography, story and acting from the previous films this church had made.

Sorry to cut this short, but have to get up earlier than usual for a training class for work - FUN!!

Take care and I hope you all are doing well!!! Thanks for reading!

Love,

Tyler's dad, Pat
