When Traci Clancy was diagnosed with breast cancer, she knew she would not be able to update all her family and friends easily. After she underwent surgery, it hurt physically and emotionally every time she held the phone.

“I really developed a phobia of talking to people. I just didn’t really want to,” says Traci.

Needing to reach out to her support group using something other than a phone, Traci searched all over the Internet to find something to help her update her family and friends. After trying three different websites, Traci settled on CaringBridge because it was so easy.

Keeping in Touch

Traci’s family and friends are constantly checking her CaringBridge website; her site totals over 27,000 visitors.

Brenda Woodcock and her 8–year–old daughter Grace are frequent visitors of Traci’s CaringBridge site. Both enjoy reading Traci’s stories and keeping updated on her cancer treatments.

“It’s such a great way for us to keep in touch with her without feeling like we’re bothering her,” says Brenda. “Her CaringBridge site keeps us updated so the next time we’re talking to her we can know what she’s been going through.”

Brenda also appreciates the simplicity of CaringBridge. “I’m not real computer savvy, but CaringBridge is so convenient,” she says. “It’s easy to get on, and it’s easy to read her story.”

From all around the country, Traci’s family and friends gather to support her through her CaringBridge site. Traci is especially thankful for the over 1,200 messages of support and encouragement they have written in her guestbook. “Everyone is cheering me on,” she says.

Strength Building and Emotional Release

Writing on her CaringBridge site also provides a therapeutic experience for Traci. “I don’t think I could have done it without CaringBridge,” she says. “It’s kind of cathartic because I can talk about what I’m going through and complain if I need to.”

On bad mornings, Traci reads through her guestbook to gain the strength she needs to continue battling her cancer. “They’re saying I’m strong, so I must be strong if they’re saying I’m strong,” she says.
