Hey Phil,
You don't know me but I emailed you maybe a year ago about baseball in Paterno. I played in 1999 in Grosseto and part of 2000 season in Parma. I just turned 33 and in excellent shape. I was playing baseball here in Kansas City (Rec league with ex-college players) and was hit in the arm by an errant throw trying to pick me off of second. My arm swelled with a bump near my elbow. It was hard to diagnose but its Hodgkins Lymphoma. I can't believe it. I actually feel fine and have been working out. I go to tests this Thursday in Kansas City. If you can share anything with me about Chemo. I know you had NHL and I have HL but I feel like we have something in common because I was a former pro baseball player with the Houston Astros and you have played pro baseball in Italy. I hope your doing okay with NHL. I am fighter and I am sure your the same. Take care.

Phil,I just learned of your Hodgkins through Baseball.it.I was a bit shocked at first, obviously, but as I read on I was
pleased to see things seem to be going well and will send my prayers and positive thoughts for your latest test results.I don't know if you remember me(Dave Sheldon)I played 3rd base for Bologna last year.Although we only played 6 games against each other it was quite evident that you are gamer and you will surely win this battle as
well.I hope to see you back in Italy playing for someone in the near future it would be quite an inspiration. Good luck and my prayers are with you and your family.

Hi Philip! It's your cousin Melissa, Harry and Linda's daughter. It's been an awfully long time since we've seen each other. I hardly recognized you in those pictures. I still think of you as that little curly haired boy playing in your parents' basement at Christmas time! My Mom told me of this site, so as soon as I got the internet, I went to your page. Hard to believe you're having to go through all of this, but you obviously have a wonderful support system. I'm glad to hear that your treatment is going so well, and I'm sure that you'll be good as new before long. Take care, Philip. You're never too far from my thoughts and prayers.

Your Uncle Norm is my dad, one of the finest men to ever come from Akron, Ohio. Our cousin Nancy emailed your website address to me. So glad to hear you are doing better, I've been following your progress through your journals. What a wonderful concept technology, isn't it great! You have a phenomenal support group of friends and family that care and love you tremendously, how lucky can a man get! By the way you were also blessed with extraordinary parents, Sandy and Joe! Please give them my best. Continue your positive outlook, just remember... nothing great ever happens without enthusiasm! My door is always open for you and your family to visit sunny South Florida! Hi Again! Just wanted to share one of my favorite quotes with you and your family: Everything can be taken from man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” -Viktor Frankl in Man’s Search for Meaning.

Hey Phil, I am sure you had a fun Turkey day, and I am sure you had to loosen the belt. I know I had to. It is too bad that you could not show off the skills during the LoCascio Turkey Bowl. It sorrows me even more that I could not blow by you for 7 touchdowns!
Get Well soon!

Hope the turkey day game went well. Just wanted to let you know and everyone who reads this site that I am having people over on December 11 to play a little hold’em. Hopefully 20+ players ($15 buy-in) like when we played at your house. Good luck with the next treatment. Hope to see you there. Anyone interested just e-mail me. Phil let me know.

Hey Phil!! I just received the website information from Gina (Evans) Hardesty and I think I am the last person from the Hoban Class of 1996 to leave you a message!! I always knew you were a great guy, but all of this love and support truly proves what a special person you are! My boyfriend wanted me to let you know that you are in his prayers also- his name is Chad Leek and he used to play for the Manchester A’s and he said he can remember playing against you back in the day!! My entire family sends their love and prayers!! Right now my grandmother is fighting Anaplastic Thyroid cancer and my uncle is battling cancer on his adrenal gland and lung, and earlier this year he had brain cancer removed. So please know that there are other’s out there fighting the battle with you and I know you will all come out as winners!! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

PS: Tell your brother Joe that I said hi!! I know he must be missing all of the good times he had as the Greek Advisor at The University of Akron!! haha Yea right!

Phil and family..sorry I am so late with this; we have been dealing with the health problems of Linda's mother and we just got back from a two-week vacation.
Phil, when Don told me about your illness, my first thought was that you are not going to be a cancer victim, you are going to be a cancer survivor. As an athlete -- one who went from walk-on to All-MAC -- you always found a way to succeed. This is your toughest competition, but no one is better equipped to beat it than you..We think about you often and pray for you every day. I look forward to the day I can watch you play baseball again.. tom gaffney

Hey Phil and strong supporters: Look how popular you are! You didn't know we were all baseball fans..of YOURS! If you get tired of the "Be Strong" messages..just remember this story, last year my best friend's baby, Connor, had a very unusual liver cancer, Stage 3 and right before Christmas after 4 rounds of chemo and surgery he was CANCER FREE! He is having the best year of his life as a VERY busy 2 1/2 year old. If little "Mr. C" can do it at age 1 1/2 you can do it no matter how tired you become of the "strong" messages..just lean on your family and God like Connor did. That's all you really need. God Bless.

I just got off the phone with Gina S. and told me of this wonderful web page. What a Great Idea! I'm not sure if you remember Mark, a Sammie from UT, but him and I just got married :) We saw Gina and Nicole at the wedding in August. We hope you are feeling better and enjoying the painkillers :) You are in our thoughts and prayers. Enjoy watching the world series over the next few weeks. Go Red Soxs!

I don't personally know you Phil, but I work with your Mom Sandy at Stouffer Realty. I was blown away when I heard the news. My mother-in-law had inoperable lung cancer, was given a grim prognosis, and is now cancer free 2 yrs later. She didn't take chemo but did the radiation and alternative therapies. I'm happy to share her alternative remedies if you'd like (i'll have to call her for the info). Another alternative remedy to consider is http://www.drday.com (Geneva Chervenic told me about this one). Rest easy and God bless all of you!
