Thursday, November 27, 2008 0:05 AM CST Well, it's been such a long time since I have updated this page. Sometimes I guess life just seems to get away from you. It has been a CRAZY year. This last summer Brendon was hospitalized because they determined from labs that his kidney function had decreased quite a bit. After the addition of some new medications (renagel, epogen)he seemed to stabilize at a higher creatinine level. Talks also got under way concerning transplant. In August, we went to visit Dr. Venditti in MD. It was a very informational visit and provided much insight in terms of the transplant. More recently, October 24, the be exact, Brendon was admitted to the hospital once again. He was in a metabolic crisis and the doctors were unsure what the problem was. He was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. He gave us the scare of our lives. He was in PICU and then put on a ventilator for 5 days. It was the absolutely scariest thing I have experienced. He had developed moisture in his lungs from the extra IV fluids and needed some assistance (and rest) so his body could heal. After 19 days inpatient our little man came home. He is no longer attending school so that he can remain as healthy as possible before transplant. He was also put on insulin as his pancreas is not quite functioning normally. HIgh blood pressure also became a problem and a new medication was added for that. The Stanford team has visited and Brendon is an excellent candidate for transplant. They took blood to do the matching tests and then he will be placed in the list. Currently many fundraisers are taking place due to the fact that Brendon's mom can not use her sick leave pay that she has accumulated. They will have to live in San Feancisco before the transplant, waiting for a suitable donor and also after transplant for recovery. It will be a tough time for the whole family. Please keep Brendon and Doreen in your prayers.
