It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult undertaking which more than anything else, will determine its outcome. To honor the life of our sweet Haley, please live by this quote. Haley Lynette Mathis April 10, 1993-June 21, 2005

Little Miss Hanna trying to look so serious !!!

"Dance as if no one were watching, Sing as if no one were listening, and Live everyday as if it were your last."

Welcome to Haley's Web Page. It has been provided to keep people updated on her progress. Haley is now 12 years old, her birthdate is April 10, 1993 and she was diagnosed with Stage IV Favorable Wilm's Tumor on Tuesday August 19th, 2003. Shortly after starting Chemo to fight the cancer(September), Haley had trouble with her legs hurting & was admitted for the formation of blood clots in both legs(the left one all the way to her ankle). She has since than taken 2 daily shots to control the thickness of her blood. After undergoing Chemo treatment & receiving scan results we were told that the Chemo was not working & the cancer was still growing. She next started a stronger round of Chemo and was finally able to have surgery(10+ hours long) to remove her right kidney & clear her Vena Cava from tumor & blood clot on Monday March 15th(her cancer at original diagnosis was found in her right kidney, both lungs, liver, lymph nodes & vena cava). On Friday July 23, 2004-Haley had a CT & MRI's of her brain(after stating that she had a headache & continued to vomit several times in the morning) she underwent brain surgery on Monday July 26th to remove the golf ball size tumor located in her Cerebellum. There are 2 other spots located out there that they will watch through scans & possibly treat seperate with Gamma Knife radiation.

November 5th 2004, follow up scans showed that there is still a spot on Haley's brain that they will need to remove as well they have now found a spot located on her spine. Scans on December 1st will give the Doctors the understanding of what direction we head in next.

Well it happened again on December 1st...another Relapse!! Haley's scans showed that there are new spots on both lungs and Lymph nodes that are enlarged, as well there is a spot located in the area where they removed her right kidney. As for the brain spots(they look as if they are getting smaller-they will leave alone for now). The spot on her spine seems to have maybe spread to the bone, we will be doing a biopsy of this soon. Haley started the next chapter of her fight with cancer by being treated at St Jude in Memphis TN in February 2005. Haley's treatment & Miracle in Memphis was ended short when one of the tumors in her brain bled, leading her to lose control of the use of her right hand(she did prove them wrong & regained the use of her hand-by continuing to work hard at this). Treatment was no longer to happen at St. Jude, we are now back in Omaha receiving full brain radiation again, since the most recent MRI showed several(as many as 12)new spots. As of April 28th Haley began treatment in Mexico. Came home in May for the last day of school and won her battle with this terrible disease on Tuesday June 21st, 2005. We LOVE you babygirl

Hello to anyone & everyone stopping by to visit Miss Haleygirl’s site. Sometimes I really struggle with the fact of updating this site at all, but deep in my heart it somehow keeps me connected to my little girl in some small way!!! With myspace/facebook/twitter etc-I know it is hard to stay connected to so many sites.

We are fastly approaching Haley’s Angel day-this year it happens to fall right on Father’s Day. Looking back 4 years ago, Father’s Day was one that can never be forgotten. Haley’s friends & their parents came over on the Saturday before, as I close my eyes I remember them coming to visit her. She was tired, not feeling well-but was very happy to come have them visit her. Now looking back, I’m sure she knew this was the very last time she would see them & give them hugs and of course if you know Haley, smile that beautiful smile.

As I keep this one a little shorter for now and will update later this weekend-Thank you for visiting. Everything is about the same here-still finding it hard to put on that happy face & move forward. Hanna was taken out in one of her boy races, so she ended up in a cast for the past 2 months(sad face). She is hoping to get the official release on the 29th !!! She can’t wait-she loves riding that bike & meeting all the new friends she has(most of them boys of course). She did very well finishing up that middle school run and is heading into High school this Fall. I will get an updated picture of Hanna out here as she has grown up so much !!!

A Trip To Heaven

I took a trip to heaven
But only in my mind
I wanted to know what it's like
To leave all you love behind.
So I closed my eyes, and started to see
Just how beautiful heaven can be.

I could see the pearly gates of white
and behind them was the most radiant light.
I saw an angel as she was passing by
so incredibly beautiful that a tear fell from my eye.
Everyone looked perfect and with the angels they did sing
There are no earthly words to describe the beauty of their wings.

As I sat on a bench in the most incredible garden
I asked God for all of my sins to be pardoned
I took one last look at all of the beauty around
And when I opened my eyes, it was peace that I found.
Missing you sweet Haley-Mommy holds you every night and talks to you every day.

Always & Forever you are with each of us !!!
