It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult undertaking which more than anything else, will determine its outcome. To honor the life of our sweet Haley, please live by this quote. Haley Lynette Mathis April 10, 1993-June 21, 2005
You are BEAUTIFUL Haley.....That smile says it all & you are missed in EVERYTHING we do!!!
"Dance as if no one were watching, Sing as if no one were listening, and Live everyday as if it were your last."
Welcome to Haley's Web Page. It has been provided to keep people updated on her progress. Haley is now 12 years old, her birthdate is April 10, 1993 and she was diagnosed with Stage IV Favorable Wilm's Tumor on Tuesday August 19th, 2003. Shortly after starting Chemo to fight the cancer(September), Haley had trouble with her legs hurting & was admitted for the formation of blood clots in both legs(the left one all the way to her ankle). She has since than taken 2 daily shots to control the thickness of her blood. After undergoing Chemo treatment & receiving scan results we were told that the Chemo was not working & the cancer was still growing. She next started a stronger round of Chemo and was finally able to have surgery(10+ hours long) to remove her right kidney & clear her Vena Cava from tumor & blood clot on Monday March 15th(her cancer at original diagnosis was found in her right kidney, both lungs, liver, lymph nodes & vena cava). On Friday July 23, 2004-Haley had a CT & MRI's of her brain(after stating that she had a headache & continued to vomit several times in the morning) she underwent brain surgery on Monday July 26th to remove the golf ball size tumor located in her Cerebellum. There are 2 other spots located out there that they will watch through scans & possibly treat seperate with Gamma Knife radiation.
November 5th 2004, follow up scans showed that there is still a spot on Haley's brain that they will need to remove as well they have now found a spot located on her spine. Scans on December 1st will give the Doctors the understanding of what direction we head in next.
Well it happened again on December 1st...another Relapse!! Haley's scans showed that there are new spots on both lungs and Lymph nodes that are enlarged, as well there is a spot located in the area where they removed her right kidney. As for the brain spots(they look as if they are getting smaller-they will leave alone for now). The spot on her spine seems to have maybe spread to the bone, we will be doing a biopsy of this soon. Haley started the next chapter of her fight with cancer by being treated at St Jude in Memphis TN in February 2005. Haley's treatment & Miracle in Memphis was ended short when one of the tumors in her brain bled, leading her to lose control of the use of her right hand(she did prove them wrong & regained the use of her hand-by continuing to work hard at this). Treatment was no longer to happen at St. Jude, we are now back in Omaha receiving full brain radiation again, since the most recent MRI showed several(as many as 12)new spots. As of April 28th Haley began treatment in Mexico. Came home in May for the last day of school and won her battle with this terrible disease on Tuesday June 21st, 2005. We LOVE you babygirl
Thanks for visiting our page and don't forget to sign her guestbook!!
Thanks for coming to Celebrate with us for Haleys Celebration of Life on Sunday January 16th(a day 4-ever remembered) at the Norris School !!!!! Thanks to all who made this event happen~we know that you poured your heart and soul into this day:)
Let the world stop turning, let the sun stop burning, let them tell me love's not worth going through. If is all falls apart, I will know deep in my heart, the only dream that mattered had come true; in this life I WAS LOVED BY YOU!!!!
Journal
Wednesday, October 15, 2008 10:24 PM CDT Sorry for the lack of updates...I know it has been a long time. There is nothing new to type about as for Miss Haley, as time goes by it seems so completely crazy that she is not here keeping busy with her friends at school, outside school, being involved in church group, preparing for Halloween, babysitting, being the GREAT Big sister she is & daughter, just being present here on Earth. I hadn't updated for awhile, because it seemed like some people were checking the website to see if & when we were not going to be home(be gone with Hanna for her races), this site is obviously not a site that I want to have set up for that...it was started while Haley was going through treatment and than I was trying to use it to be a resource to others going down the same road-I do however want to update on how Hanna is doing though.
Time continues to just tick by, sometimes it seems like it is zooming by & others, time is standing still. We have been very busy it seems like and are looking for a break.
I ask for prayers last update for Angel Kyle's Mom Paula(www.caringbridge.org/ia/kyle, she is now fighting her own battle and her family is walking at her side through all she is facing. If you get a chance please stop by & offer her prayers, as well as Mike & the kids they all need it. It has been hard to read her updates sometimes, as she is able to express what she is going through and it breaks my heart to know she is going through this. I read her words and feel some of the same things Haley talked about and went through-GOD you must make a difference, you MUST intervene-this is in NO way something that anyone should go through. The pain, the medicine, the loss of hair, wanting to eat-but not being able to keep anything in, being tired, angry, feeling all alone, feeling scared & begging for YOU LORD to help. I know that you are with us, and I know that you continue to support each of us, but it is very unfair. Please extend prayers to each family who is heading into the holidays without their someone special, those who are in treatment and those survivors and their families(as many children as we know who are now Angel-we do have friends that are survivors and we are proud of them and honored to know them).
I will try to update more now that Hanna is almost done racing for the year and give you updates on what we are doing and the events that Haley's Helping Hands will be putting together.
Thanks so much for stopping by & please know how very much it means to us that you were thinking of Haley-may she continue to reach out to those in need.
In our Father's Arm Angel Haley's family forever
