Welcome to Connor's web site!

Connor was diagnosed with Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD for short)in October 2003. CGD is a rare, genetic condition infecting one in one million people. People with CGD have a faulty bone marrow gene, which means that certain white blood cells do not function correctly. These are known as neutrophils, which are responsible for killing fungi and bacteria. As a result, someone with CGD is more susceptible to fungal and bacterial infections. Medication is required continuously to keep infection at bay, but serious problems can arise that lead to life-threatening illnesses and prolonged periods in hospital.

At present, a small number of CGD patients with an exact donor match can be given a Bone Marrow Transplant. We are fortunate that we have an exact match. Connor's three-year-old brother, Ryan, is going to be our brave donor!

Connor was admitted to Duke Children's Hospital on June 14th. The transplant took place on June 24, 2004. He is doing great and was discharged to outpatient July 12, 2004.

I know it's been a while since I've taken the time to write. No news is good news in this case. Things are amaningly normal. Connor is doing great. He has received his second round of immunizations and all is looking good. The third round is scheuled for December 5th.

We took the boys to my parents house before Halloween. Connor is facinated with trains so we all went to Tweetsie Railroad to ride No.12. It was VERY cold that day, but we had a nice time. Connor was a little scared for the train's whistle at first, but warmed up to it after a few minutes. The boys rode the rides and had a blast.

Trick-or-treating was fun this year. Ryan was Darth Vader and Connor was Mickey Mouse. They both looked cute. Ryan was bored after the first few houses. Connor just wanted to stop and talk to everyone. In fact, Connor and I stayed out after Ryan and Darin went back home. He wasn't ready to leave yet which was fine by me.

The weather has been beautiful here. It's almost scarey how warm it has been. The whole family was in shorts last weekend. That never happens this time of year. And Thanksgiving is just around the corner. It's hard to believe how quickly the last year has gone for our family. When I look back at where we were this time last year, it's amazing how far we have come! Although it was the most difficult thing I have ever gone through, I wouldn't trade it for the beautiful, healthy little boys I have now.

I have added new pictures to the photo album. Check them out. Also, please sign the guest book so I know you've been here. Take care!
